How to Get Organized

Clutter can quickly take over your life, and it is very simple to change that for good

. Getting organized is simply a matter of time and priorities, so once you decide to get rid of your messes and change your life it is easy to do. Organizing your paperwork and other clutter can be done by deciding to get started, finding a place to store or get rid of your excess items, and figuring out a method for not allowing the cluttered area to become that way again in the future.

Getting started may well be the most difficult part of the process. My house was fairly well organized, but my home office was a completely different story. All of my mail ended up there, along with paperwork, books, folders, and more. One day I decided to take everything off of my desk and put it on the floor. This led to a full three hours of having to decide what to keep and what to throw out. Once I had made the decision to eliminate the mess in my office once and for good, there was no stopping me.

The problem was in deciding what to do with the items I really did not need any longer. I just could not bear the thought of throwing away books, cards, and souvenirs from conferences, so I decided to pack one office filing box with the things I wanted to keep and look at later on. The rest went into the trash can or the shredder. I also had to decide what to do with one small desk that was just taking up space. Once I took all of the papers off of it I realized I didn't need to keep it. This I donated to a shop in my community for them to sell.
