There is no arguing the fact that a good night's sleep can do wonders for both your body and your mind and, of course, we would all love to benefit from a solid 6 to 8 hours of restorative sleep. Unfortunately, precious few of us can honestly say that we get enough sleep and what sleep we do get, is often interrupted.
There are, however, a few things that can be done, prior to sleeping that can help you get the sleep that you long for.
Consider removing caffeine from your diet after 4:00 p.m. Instead of coffee, drinking a nice herbal tea, before bed might is a great alternative. Chamomile is especially helpful in making you feel relaxed and calm before bedtime.
Close the TV, radio and computer at least one hour before retiring. Try not to read instead sit in quiet meditation for a few minutes or practice some deep breathing exercises. Writing in a journal would also work well. The general idea is to calm your mind before going to sleep.
Use your bedroom for sleeping. Do not keep a TV set in that room. This should be an inner sanctuary that you associate only with calming activities.
Decorate your room in soothing colors make it your own. This is a great place to add your own touches and make it feel like a refuge. Your bed sheets and comforter should be clean and comfortable choose fabrics that are soothing to the touch not to hot or not to cool.
Take a long and serious look at your mattress. In many cases, a poor night's sleep can be directly attributed to the condition of the mattress. If you currently have a regular spring mattress, you may want to think about replacing it with a memory foam mattress.
Memory foam mattresses are designed to work with your body regardless of your body size or type and will naturally mold to your own individual body shape easily accommodating your preferred sleeping positions. Memory foam mattresses have also been used, in many instances, as the ideal solution against certain skin allergies and are considered, by many to be "the" healthiest and wisest sleep mattress available on the market.
Getting a good night's sleep might not be as hard as you may think if you are willing to make some simple, but extremely effective changes in your daily routines.
