As the body gets older, it is exposed to a lot of physical and chemical processes some of which may cause it to lose a lot of nutrients that make the skin healthy.
The two main causes of premature skin-aging are:
1. The loss of collagen and elastin in the skin
2. Oxidation through the action of free radicals
What is Collagen and Why is it So Important in Keeping Fresh Young Skin ?
Collagen and elastin are proteins. Like we all know, proteins help the body repair damaged tissues and stimulates the production of new cells, collagen and elastin are no exception.
They too play these roles in our skin. A great source of collagen is avocado. Well avocado does not contain collagen it just helps increase the production of collagen in the skin.
Oxidation through the action of free radicals can be avoided by taking food that is rich in antioxidants. These foods also help fight the free radicals damaged. Rich sources of antioxidants are green vegetables such as spinach and broccoli.
Another important nutrient that may help the skin with avoiding the wrinkles is omega 3 and fatty acids. Fish and fish products are excellent sources omega 3 and fatty acids. These include tuna and salmon.
Food that contains vitamin E is also essential in keeping the skin free of wrinkles. Vitamin E helps reduce skin lines and wrinkles.
