How to Have a Great Date
When it comes to having a great date, my experience as a communication coach makes led me to believe there is a set of four things that matter the most. Here they are:
1. Pick a fun date spot. The classic date at a regular restaurant can get boring quickly. Today, there are many more options for a date and a lot of them are more fun than sitting at a table, eating and talking.
Use your creativity and your research skills to find interesting, fun ideas and spots for a date. Examples can include a water park, horse riding, a club where you can dance and so on.
2. Start your date in a good way. If a date kicks-off in a positive way, it has a lot more chances of continuing that way. This is why I think it can help a lot to carefully plan the start of a date.
Consider surprising your date with a small gift, making them an honest compliment when you see them or using first date conversation starters that engage the other person and put a smile on their face.
3. Focus on having fun. Many people, while on a date, focus on impressing the other person. Unfortunately, this puts a lot of pressure on both parts, often making the date feel awkward.
Don't do this. Instead, focus on having fun and enjoying the experience as much as possible. This will help your relax, be yourself and help the other person do the same. In the end, it's exactly what you want to aim for.
4. Find the common ground. A great date is a date where people discover the things they have in common and they interact on a common ground. This makes the date very enjoyable and builds a connection between the two people.
When you're talking with the other person, don't focus just on the topics you're interested in and don't focus just in the topics the other person is interested in. Try to find the common ground and have a conversation on it.
A date where these four things happen is a date both parts get pleasure from and a date that gets them wanting more.
