Your boss plays a key role in your professional life. If you can impress your boss you can get all sorts of benefits, such as a raise, a promotion, a better office or more exciting responsibilities.

There are numerous strings you can pull to try and impress your boss. Here are the ones that as a communication coach, I've noticed to work best:

1. Start with creating real results. Any manager wants to have a team that performs well. This is why your results create a concrete base for impressing your boss. Before you focus on wooing your manager, focus on being a competent employee and delivering real results.

2. Show your results. Delivering results in itself is a good thing, but it is not enough to astonish your manager. Many managers are very busy and they have no clue what results each one of their employees generates. This is why it's crucial that when you talk with your boss, you mention your work and emphasize specific positive effects you create through your work.

3. Get work done fast. Managers love employees who can deliver fast results. They know they can count on them for both quality and speed. You will be one of the most appreciated people by your boss if you show them that you can do your job well, but also fast and you can meet tight deadlines.

4. Connect with your boss. It's much easier to impress somebody if they know you as a person. We naturally tend to like those who are not strangers for us. Considering this, it's a good idea to connect with your boss at a personal level. Catch any opportunity to interact with them, chat, and don't only talk business. Get to know each other, discover the things you have in common, and you'll be making progress.

Once you impress your boss and they have a good opinion of you, as a professional and as a person, you will find that things happen a lot smoother for you in the workplace.
