If you just have a computer without Hardware Virtualization, congratulate to you! A good news is that Microsoft has dropped the requirement that your CPU supports Hardware Virtualization for XP Mode in Windows 7. Now I will show you how to install the updated XP Mode and get it worked on your PC.
Note: You also need Enterprise, Professional or Ultimate version of Windows 7 though you don't need Hardware Virtualization any more.
Download Version of XP Mode Correctly
Note: For this article we're installing it on a Dell machine that doesn't support Hardware Virtualization on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit version.
Firstly, you should go to the XP Mode website, select your edition of Windows 7 and language. Then you'll need to get three downloads from the page. Windows XP Mode, Windows Virtual PC, and the Windows XP Mode Update (All Links Below).
Windows genuine validation is required before you can download the XP Mode files. When downloading these files and validating your version of Windows, you might want to use IE to make the validation process easier.
Install XP Mode
After validation is successful, the first thing should do is to download and install XP Mode, which is easy following the wizard and accepting the defaults.
Secondly, install KB958559 which is Windows Virtual PC.
After it's installed, a reboot is required.
After that, you've come back from the restart. Then you'll need to install KB977206 which is the Windows XP Mode Update.
After that's installed, yet another restart of your system is required.
You'll find XP Mode in the Start menu under the Windows Virtual PC folder after the update is configured and you return from the second reboot.
When it launches accept the license agreement and click "Next".
Then enter in your log in credentials.
Choose if you want Automatic Updates or not.
Then you're given a message saying "setup will share the drive on this computer with Windows XP Mode", then click "Start Setup".
While setup completes, you're shown a display of what XP Mode does and how to use it.
You can see XP Mode launches and now you can begin using it to run older applications which are not compatible in Windows 7.
Note: This is really a good news for persons who want the ability to use XP Mode but didn't have the proper hardware to do it. But it is unfortunate for those users of Home versions of Windows who l don't get to enjoy the XP Mode feature officially.
