Food can be incredibly important in World of Warcraft

. With the immediate benefits to health that raw food provides, and the bonuses that are made possible with the cooking skill, meat is an always in demand item. This means that you can start farming decent chunks of gold right away by collecting and selling meat. Even if you decide to try cooking the meat before you sell it for the skill points, you can probably still manage to get something for it in the auction house.

With that in mind, the question becomes what should you hunt in order to find meat? Well, at the earliest levels of the game, boar and lynx meat are both great places to start. You might only get a gold per stack, but if you come back with 10 stacks of boar meat in a few hours, you could sell them to net yourself 10 gold, and this is before even breaking level 10.

Eventually you'll have to move up from these simple creatures, but do not worry. There are a plethora of animals that can be hunted for meat as you progress the level ladder. After boars there are wolves, clams, basilisks and hosts more. In short, any "beast" class mob in the game can be a source for raw meat, which is valuable for either cooking or selling in the auction house to people looking for meats to practice cooking with.

With the opening of Northrend in the WotLK expansion, new animals like wooly rhinos and mammoths have made meat selling a viable source of income all the way up to and through level 80. As long as cooking remains as popular as it is, and it will, there will always be a market for raw meat in the auction house. Choose skinning as your gathering profession, and you can hunt beasts for meat and skins while questing or adventuring, constantly building up your gold supply so you can afford that epic mount at your first chance to get it.
