How to Make Photo Corners for Scrapbooking
Adding Photo Corners to your scrapbook page will add texture and interest to the design. These are very important elements for any scrap book layout. Here's 3 easy ways to create Corners for your next set of pages. Let's get started!
(1) Photo Corners with a Punch
The easiest way to make corners is to use a punch specifically designed for this purpose. An example - the Photo Corners Extra-Large Punch by Stampin' Up! This particular punch creates two images with each use. One image is 2" wide at the base and each side is 1/2" wide; the other image is 1-1/2" wide at the base and each side is 3/8" wide. This is perfect for layering on one photo, or for using the same color in two sizes on two different photos.
(2) Simple Folded Photo Corners
You can make your own corners by creating a Simple Folded Corner from a square piece of card stock. To learn how to create this style, start with a 4" square of photocopy paper (it's much easier to fold!)
A) Fold your square into a rectangle (left edge folded over to meet the right edge), creasing the fold.
B) Make a square (lower edge folded up to meet the upper edge), creasing this new fold; the upper right edges will be free (not folded).
C) Make your Corner by taking the upper right corner of only the top layer and fold it over to meet the lower left corner; crease this fold well.
D) Glue this folded piece to the first layer and glue the non-folded layers to each other. This leaves a "pocket" for you to slip over the photo.
You can make Simple Folded corners to fit any size picture by adjusting the size of your original square. NOTE: This style of Photo Corner works well with either card stock and Patterned Paper (like Stampin' Up! Patterns Designer Series Paper).
(3) Multi-Layer Folded Photo Corners
A variation of the Simple Folded Corner is the Multi-Layer Folded Corner. For this style, follow steps A and B as noted above. Follow Step C but do not fold the right corner all the way to the lower left corner - leave 1/8" of bottom layer showing. Now fold over the next layer, again showing 1/8" of the bottom layer; repeat for the last layer, again leaving 1/8" showing. Glue the folded pieces to the first layer which will leave a pocket as before. Again, you can adjust the size of your original square to create just the size corner you need. NOTE: Because there are so many folds with this style, it is best created with Patterned Paper, not card stock.
Viola! You're ready to start scrapbooking! With any of these 3 styles of Photo Corners, you can quickly add dimension, texture and interest to your pages. You can create them in colors that contrast with your theme. You could layer two corners together. Add the "unexpected" by placing corners only on two of the photo's corners - adjoining or opposite. Or create one large Photo Corner for one corner of the photo... how beautiful!
