How to Make a Great First Impression as a Job Trainee

How to Make a Great First Impression as a Job Trainee

On your first day on the job as a job trainee, it can be nerve-wracking. You try very hard to make a good first impression in order to please your supervisor or your boss. However, the more you exert effort, the more you seem to fail or to make clumsy mistakes. You start telling yourself that this is not you.that you're just tense and nervous because it's your first day.

Don't be - you need to stay focused. You need to learn to put your head above your emotions. The moment you lose control, the more you'll mess up your day. Below are a few tips to help you make it through the rest of your training session:

? Be punctual. Prepare the things you need the night before. Dress appropriately and put your mobile on silent mode.

? When you reach the office, be courteous and respectful to anyone you come across with. You still don't know who your superiors would be. Don't be too quick to judge people by their appearances.

? Smile and try to befriend your co-workers. Doing this will also help lessen the tension you may be feeling deep inside.

? Once you meet your supervisor or immediate superior, listen to her explanation of the things you need to do and accomplish. Make a list so that you won't forget things. Learn to listen attentively.

? Don't be afraid to ask questions. It's better than making assumptions that can get you into trouble.

? Keep things tidy and organized in your work space. Ho will you be able to work properly if everything is a mess around you?

? Make sure you accomplish tasks. If you're having problems or trouble doing this, maybe there's something not right about what you're doing so check with your immediate superior.

? Take your break, use it wisely and don't go on overbreak. Eat something because you won't be able to work and think effectively with an empty stomach.

? Make a list of your finished and unfinished tasks for the day so that you'll know what you need to work on the next day.

? Ask your supervisor for feedback. Welcome criticism because that's the only way you'll learn.

? Ask for important numbers such as the mobile number of your immediate supervisor or your office number. You need to know where you can call just in case something comes up and you'll be late or absent from work.

? There are companies that have mandatory overtime and there are those that are optional. If you need to be somewhere then courteously decline. This is better than taking overtime and complaining about it later. The attitude you will project on your first day is very important.

? Before you leave the office, let your immediate supervisor know that you are already leaving. This is a sign of respect.

There are other ways to impress your supervisor or boss on your first day as a job trainee. With the right attitude, you'll have a good work relationship with the people in your job.
