How to Make a Presentation to Be Remembered by the Audience

How to Make a Presentation to Be Remembered by the Audience

Humans easily forget. Every day they go through the various activities that make them forget what they have heard. The same thing applies when you give a presentation. Audiences will soon forget the materials you have presented. So how can you make a presentation to be remembered by the audience?

It is known that someone's attention span when listening is very limited. He can not recall all the information that he has listened. Even, listening can not be started again.

Indeed, spoken information is different from written information. If there is anything missing, you can easily repeat the previous page. But, when listening to a presentation, what has been conveyed has passed. If there is something that is less obvious, you can ask on the question and answer session. However there is one exception that is, if the presenter repeats to the audience.

Based on an observation, human's attention tends to focus at the beginning and the end of a conversation. This applies to almost everything from listening to lectures, listening to presentations, learning in the classroom, watching movies or any activities.

That is why, you will easily tell the beginning and end of a movie but will get difficulty to explain the middle. You can still remember the moment details that happened at the beginning and end, but you will find difficulty to tell the same details that occurred in the middle of the storyline. The same thing applies when you listen to a presentation. The beginning and end are usually still well remembered, while the middle part has been forgotten.

If you experience something like that, then your listeners feel the same. Therefore, doing repetition is a simple way to make your audience remember what you have presented. This will make your presentation give strong impact because the audience will remember it well, from beginning to end.

Repetition principle

In the world of communications, you will know a very simple principle of repetition. This principle consists of three steps:

1. Tell the audiences what you are going to tell (tell them what would you explain to the next slide)

2. Tell them (explain the core of these slides)

3. Tell them what you have told (give a summary of the points you have just conveyed).
