As the first step, you need to decide the type of curtains that you want to hang. You can choose among informal tab-tops, floor-length formal drapes, or caf curtains. It is suggested for you to choose the curtains that suit with your home decoration so that you will get your room looks more attractive.

The second step is to decide where the rod of the curtain will go. The curtain rod is generally placed about 6 inches above your window frame. However, you can place it lower or higher inside the frame.

The third step is to decide how much coverage that you want. As mentioned on the previous step, the curtain commonly extends about 6 inches above the window frame, from 2 to 3 inches on the each side, and also 2 to 3 inches on the bottom. Also, you need to consider about how much the light you want to block. You may want to hang a lot of curtains if your window faces east. Thus, you do not have to be disturbed by the sun light when you would like to sleep in.

The fourth step that you should do is to make measurement from the curtain rod to the bottom point and also from side to side by using tape measure. After that, you have to multiply the measurement of side to side by two in order to allow for full curtains generously.
