When you have a home based Internet business, distractions are plentiful. Friends and family are calling all day long, the pets need let outside, you may have children to take care of, emails coming in by the minute, television shows that you want to watch and every now and then you ponder what you can make yourself to eat. There are numerous other distractions, but those ones are pretty common among a lot of people who work from home.

How do you overcome distractions when you have a home based Internet business? Here are a few tips that may help you avoid all of those nagging distractions so you can make your work day more productive.

Turn off the phone and your cell phone while you are working. Make sure that you let friends and family know that you will no longer be accepting phone calls between certain hours so that they do not worry about you. If you have school age kids, this might not completely work in case your child's school needs to contact you in the case of illness or other issues, but the phone is one of the biggest distractions. If you can manage it, not having the phone ring constantly will be a big help.

Only check your email every few hours. It might seem hard at first, but you will be amazed what you can get done for your home Internet business if you are not constantly sifting through emails from your friends, family and all of those special offer emails from your favorite retailers.

Make sure that your home office area is away from the television or any distractions. If you do not have a literal office and just work where ever is comfortable, this might be a mistake. If people do not feel like they are "at work", then they are less apt to get work done.

Work the hours that provide you the most time to work. For example, if other family members are home during the day, but go to work in the evening, then you will enjoy more peace and quiet in the evenings.
