How to Overcome a Loosing Streak in Poker

How to Overcome a Loosing Streak in Poker

If you play online poker regularly, you will hit a loosing streak eventually. It often happens, even great poker players do hit a loosing streak too. A lot of people will advise you to just take a break. These people assume that you are playing too much and that you are only tired. It may be one of the possibilities, sometimes it is more than just being physically and emotionally tired.

It's undeniable that fatigue can have an effect on your game. But something else can happen while being fatigued, sometime we make silly mistakes without even realizing it. The "Luck" factor is a good indicator of this, or in the case, the "Bad Luck" factor.

It seems you're just plain unlucky if you are loosing frequently, because probably you are putting your money in situations where the risk is too great and luck is too much of a factor. A prime example is a player who is constantly chasing flushes, even when the pot odds don't warrant such actions. You are not loosing because you're unlucky (ex: not catching the heart you needed), you are loosing because you play hands that you should not play. Go nuts if you can chase a flush for free or for a little money. Give it up already if it's going to cost half of you stack to win double that amount.

Habitual creatures: we tend to create a routine and stick to that comfort zone, that's what humans are and don't ever forget that. When playing poker in the most trusted online casino sites, that is not a good thing.

A lot of players that have been playing poker regularly and for a long time eventually end up creating a mold for themselves. They tend to repeat the same patterns and become comfortable with a particular style. A good example of that is a player who always raises 3 times the big blind when they start with a good hand like A-K, or hoping to catch a cheap flop and always limp in when they have a small pair. It is not a bad play, it's just you should not always play those hands the exact same way.

So if a loosing streak comes your way, do take a break. But also think about how you've been playing. You should ask yourself some questions and here are some of those:

Have I been calling frequently while pot odds were not in my favor? If yes, then consider bluffing. Come out with a considerable raise instead of calling. Or, if your stack is low consider folding earlier, or if you feel that you can't get away with a bluff.

Do I tend to play a lot of hands? If yes, then you are probably throwing away a lot of money in the pot and you probably fold by time the river card comes. That's wasting a lot of money hoping that you get lucky. Spend more time learning about pot odds and don't rely on luck.

Does it feel like my opponents tend to read me easily? Maybe you are just predictable. Try mixing up things a little. Send out signs by showing cards and establish a table image that you can abuse later.

Do I loose a lot of money because I fold frequently? Maybe you are a push over at the poker table. Maybe people know that when they raise you are likely to fold. Or, maybe you just play too many hands.

Do I loose because I get caught when I bluff? If yes, try working on a more conservative table image, tone down your aggressiveness and try not to bluff those who have more chips than you do.

You can examine a lot of different game elements, and the questions mentioned above are a good start. Take time to reinvent your style and take time to assess where you have been going wrong.
