How to Play Out of a Water Trap - Some Simple Golfing Pointers

Although a highly competitive sport at professional level

, for us amateurs, golf is best seen as a game you play against yourself. Trying to iron out the imperfections and improve your overall play and consistency. Following are some simple instructions on how to cope with some of the great games situations.

Playing out of a water trap.

Before you do anything, determine what is underneath your ball. See what is below the water and ascertain whether you are hitting off sand or a rock bed before you take the shot. Swinging into hard surface can be dangerous, sometimes it is better to walk away.

Calculate the balls depth accurately, the more of the ball that is visible the better. This shot becomes very difficult to perform if the top of the ball is more than half an inch below the water line.

If you have to get into the water to perform the shot then take off your shoes and socks and position yourself in the water barefoot.

Use a raincoat or protective gear, since there will be a large spray that can include mud or sticky surface.

Focus on your grip. Since the club will have to move through water, the club head will twist and turn if you dont maintain a tight grip.

Open the club head slightly before you swing as the head will naturally close when you strike through the water.

Aim behind the ball as if playing from a sand pit. Hit the water one ball length behind the ball.

For once make sure to use enough power. Hit the ball hard and make sure to finish off your swing. Since it will be the force of the water behind the ball that carries the ball out and not the impact with the club itself.

Please be aware that your club must not come into contact with the water before you take the shot. If you happen to make contact the penalty is two strokes or in a match play you will loose the hole.
