How to Properly Care for Synthetic Hair Wigs

How to Properly Care for Synthetic Hair Wigs

One of the few good things that you should know about synthetic wigs is that it has very low maintenance. You don't need to wash them as often and you don't have to restyle them after every washing unlike human hair wigs that needs extra care. Though this doesn't mean that you should care less about synthetic wigs, you should also know how to take good care of it properly, and here are some tips to do that.

The first thing you need to know about wig care is to know what products are harmful to your wig. Normal hair shampoos and conditioners are unsuitable for synthetic wigs because they are made from different materials. Instead, use shampoos and conditioners especially formulated for synthetic hair wigs. There are a wide range of wig products that you can find in online stores as well as in beauty supply stores.

Although you can style your wigs with hairsprays, mousses, hair gels and creams, you cannot use straightening and curling irons, hot rollers as well as blow dryers on it. Any heat can destroy your wig so remember to always keep it away from hot materials and surfaces.

As stated above, synthetic wigs do not need to be washed often. You can wash it after eight to ten uses during summer and up to ten to fifteen uses during winter. However, if you keep on putting hairsprays and mousse on it, you need to wash it more often. But remember that every washing shortens the life of your wig so minimize the number of times that you put styling creams on it or until it looks like it needs washing.

Also, constantly brush your synthetic wigs with the right wig brush to avoid tangles and split ends from accumulating. If the wigs are naturally curly, do not brush them with brush; just gently brush your fingers through it.

As you can see, caring for synthetic wigs is easy. By following these do's and don'ts, you will have a longer relationship with your wig and enjoy using it longer. You can also try having several different styled wigs that can instantly ante up your look.
