It is alarming how fast the number of obesity cases is rising these days
. It's scary because obesity comes with a lot of health risks, like heart diseases, diabetes, rheumatism, stroke, and other debilitating sicknesses. But probably for some people, looking like a barrel and losing their self-confidence is much worse.
No one wants to be made fun of because of having a large belly. Being the constant subject of ridicule can make anyone lose their self-esteem. And as if in desperation, these people will blindly exercise in the gym for endless hours to try and get a flat stomach as fast as they can, without even knowing if the exercises they are doing can really help them or will they just make it worse.
One of the fad exercise concepts that people mistakenly believe is the spot training technique. This method basically states that if you practice exercises that target only the muscles in your problem area, in most cases the midsection; you can reduce the amount of fat in there. But what people don't know is that you can't just train one specific portion of the body and leave out the rest. You cannot choose to lose fat on your belly or just on your thighs. Nature will decide on which part of the body it deems overweight and requires reduction.
Spot training will only be useful if you couple it with other exercises that also train the other parts of the body. You need an exercise regimen that, if possible, includes different kinds of exercises like weightlifting, running and other cardio vascular exercises. And try to give up a sedentary lifestyle, get out of the house and take brisk walks, being physically active can really help in staving off obesity.
But exercises alone can't eliminate the possibility of obesity; you also need to change your eating habits in order for you to get a flat stomach and an overall slim figure. Change your diet to include a lot of fruits and vegetables. By doing this you can lose almost all of your excess fat and keep them off.
