Managing Task-Related Stress


Prioritizing tasks - Learning time management skills will help workers make the best of their time and resources. Start by working with a manager to make a To-Do list that focuses on top priorities, either for the day, week, or even the month. This way, an appropriate amount of time can be allocated to each project, and the supervisor has full knowledge of how time is being spent. Making a To-Do list also helps diffuse feelings of pressure to get loads of work completed by the end of the day, and increases productivity through task management.

Although, sometimes confronting an unstable boss is nigh impossible. In that case, take the problem to the next in line, usually a direct supervisor.


Schedule a lunch or coffee meeting away from the office with a supervisor. The night before the meeting, write down all the issues and concerns that are causing stress so they can be presented in a positive way. Ask the supervisor for help in making workplace relationships more positive, whether that means a transfer or a group therapy session.

When dealing with a snide or obnoxious co-worker, try not to get involved. Office politics are inevitable, but having to participate is not. Stick to doing the work; after all, that's the reason for being there. Never feel like a tattle-tale. If the work is jeopardized, any boss with integrity will work to rectify the situation.
