How to Replace a PSP Screen?
The PSP is an advanced handheld game console with a sleek LCD screen. The PSP screen can become damaged through repeated use, and you'll need to replace the entire screen. Doing so requires you to buy a new PSP screen. You can replace the screen on your PSP by yourself if you feel comfortable disassembling electronic devices.
Requirement
Replacement PSP screen
Phillips screwdriver
Flathead screwdriver
1. Make sure you have all the proper tools before hand. Once you are ready, turn off the PSP.
2. Remove all accessories attached to your PSP, including game discs and memory sticks.
3. Remove the battery cover from the back of the PSP. Take out the battery and place it aside.
4. Place your PSP face down on a clean, flat surface, face up. Pull the circular portion of the stick away from the PSP, and it will slide off.
5. Turn your PSP over and locate the five screws on the back of the PSP. There is one screw in each corner, with the screw in the bottom-left corner slightly obscured by the warranty sticker. Do not tear off the warranty sticker---instead, fold it back just enough so you can access the screw. If the warranty sticker is damaged, it will void your PSP's warranty.
6. Lift the back of the PSP off the faceplate. Put the faceplate aside and place the PSP on its back.
7. Use a flathead screwdriver to push out the clips holding the PSP's screen in place. There are two clips on the left side of the screen and two clips on the right. Tilt the screwdriver toward the center of the PSP, which will cause the clips to push outward and release the screen.
8. Bring the PSP screen forward so it is laying face down. Two brown cables keep the screen connected to the circuits of the PSP. These cables are part of the screen, so they will be replaced by the cables on the new screen.
9. Use your flathead screwdriver to push up the clasps connecting the cables to the motherboard. Gently slide the cables out and fully detach the PSP screen.
10. Place the new PSP screen face down in the same position that the old one was in. Remove any plastic film there might be then line it up with the top of the screen.
11. Attach the brown cables to the same clasps, with the right cable in the right clasp and the left cable in the left clasp. Use your flathead screwdriver to lift the clasps up as you put the cables in place.
12. Fit the screen into place and push the four clips back in, securing the new PSP screen. You can push the clips back into place with your finger until they fit snugly around the screen.
13. Reattach the faceplate and place the battery back into the PSP. Secure it with the five screws. Once connected everything should be able to fit right back in the PSP and then it should run just as new!
