How to Set your HP Printer for Optimal Performance
?
Hey, do you use HP printers? Is it the Photosmart "C" series like the C4500 or the Officejet "J" series like the J6400 or the latest wireless 6500 and 8500 with various capabilities of printing, scanning and faxing using complicated dll files and scan-protocols which might persuade you to call the technical support and the experience might not always be a marvelous one when you have to repeatedly call for specific issues on the basis of the perception that the vendor will be the best place to get technical help from. Although the perception is not really wrong but there are equally qualified people elsewhere (who have worked for the vendor in the past) who can deal with software related issues in a better way only because of the fact that they do not consider a printer issue to be related to a printer only but their wholistic approach towards a printer issue in terms of root causes lying in the computer itself.
The vendor generally fails to perceive a printer issue in terms of the computer itself and generally the computer issues are sent to the computer queue and the printer issues to the printer queue, the disadvantage being that for printer issues where it is the computer's system files and not the printer related files that should be corrected, the technician often fails to take it up because of official barriers and norms.
Did anybody ever tell you what and how should you prepare your computer so that a printer installation goes through without a hassle especially when you are installing an HP printer? Take it from a senior level engineer who has worked for the vendor, the points mentioned below are essential and vital.
1. Updated system files of the computer which are essential for authentication, coordination between printer related system files and the operating system's own files.
2. Updated Flash files, .net frameworks and properly configured security settings.
3. Consider the presence of other printer software from same or different vendors. Remember, all these printer related drivers generally goes to the "driver" folder of the c: drive and a driver clash is not very uncommon in these cases.
4. For USB connections check the physical ports first and for network connections keep the required information like SSID (network name) and the WEP encryption key handy. Keep spare Ethernet cables handy if in case a wireless connectivity fails.
5. Make sure that an Advanced Installation takes place and NOT a recommended one because in recommended installation a lot of crap-ware tends to get installed when you are installing the printer software.
6. Last but not the least important is that a virus scan using a technician's tool is necessary before you go ahead with the installation of the printer software. I am not talking about the general McAfee or the normal antivirus scanner you already have installed on your system.
I did not cover the Windows registry related and specific port related issues where HP printers face a problem and sometimes the printer does not get detected on the network no matter what troubleshooting you do. The best thing is to consult a computer repair services for HP Printer Support.
