How to Shake the Winter Blues with Cloudspotting


Do you remember getting the winter blues as a child? I can almost guarantee that you cannot. The reason you did not get the winter blues as a child was because you loved the winter as much as spring and summer. What happened? You got older and found yourself a lot more in demand, you now have a job and you may be a parent or spouse. Now, what you have to do is to learn to use all of these demands as an avantage.

When you find yourself home during the days of winter with nothing to do, there's a wonderful hobby that can help you shake the winter blues, and that hobby is cloud spotting or cloud watching as it's sometimes called. Clouds come is all shapes, sizes and shades of color, some are common while others are very unique or rare. Some of the more common types of clouds are; cumulus, cirrus, stratus and nimbus. Rare or more unique cloud types include but are not limited to the following; roll clouds, lenticular, mammatus, nacreous.

Some clouds look like big puffy white cotton balls, and some can look down-right scary and very ominus. The only items you really need for cloudspotting are a notepad and a digital camera, any modern cell phone with a camera will do fine. Once you can afford it, you should buy a couple books on beginning cloudspotting, or get a general one that has numerous photos of different cloud types.


When you go outside, use your cell phone or digital camera and take some nice snapshots of the different cloud types you see, almost every day you will see different clouds. You can write down the time of day or any other info you want about the clouds, in your notebook. There are cloudspotting groups on the internet that you can join, where you can upload your photos for others to enjoy, and you can chat with other members about the clouds. Now, when your home with nothing to do in the winter, bundle up, grab your equipment and go cloudspotting, it's a great way to help shake the winter blues.
