Awesome, let me go inform the 732 million people that have the same website topic that they have some new competition! These numbers are quite exaggerated, but I hope you get my point. There are millions of websites out there about anything and everything. But, never fear, I will show you exactly what you want to do when starting a website. Yes, there are probably thousands of other websites and guides about this, but I am going to provide you with specific details about what exactly to do. In this case, it is better to have quality than quantity.

Picking a Topic

Yay! You made it to the first part of making a website. The first thing you have to do, is pick what your topic is about. I would say that you should go with your interests, because you will want to develop your website more because it is fun to do. Try to narrow it down to a few things, then just pick one idea from there. After you pick your topic, head on to the next step.

Research

This is probably the most important part of starting a website. You want to figure out what other people with your topic are doing. Then, you want to analyze some of their websites, and see how they are presenting the information. You have to look at the websites and figure out what you do and do not like about them in regards to the layout, how they present their information, and what kind of site it is. After that, YOU then have to decide how YOU want to run YOUR website. I highlight the fact that it is your website because you are going to be able to customize it anyway you choose.

Learning the Basics - HTML and CSS

You are going to want to learn some basic coding so that you can do cool things like CLICK HERE. Amazingly impressive, right? You are going to want to read up first on HTML to learn some basic website coding. After that, you want to learn some CSS so that you can control the look and feel of your website. After that, you are ready for the final step!

Getting a Domain and Hosting

The first thing you want to do is a pick a hosting company for you website. I personally use Web Hosting Pad to host my domains. I find that they have great uptime and amazing customer service. So I would recommend using them to host your domain. What you want to do first is go to the hosting company and make sure your domain is available. If you don't know what a domain is, it is what you type in your Internet browser to get to a website (Ex. www.mikeshowtosite.com). Once you pick out your domain, you want to buy it and sign up for a hosting plan by comparing the various options. If you are just starting out, you should probably just pick the basic package. After that you are ready to start your website!!
