How to Treat A Blocked Fallopian Tube
Do you want to know if a blocked fallopian tube can hinder you from getting pregnant
? Simple answer would be 'no', but there are cases especially when a full blockage is involved that can affect fertility.
Forty percent of women diagnosed with infertility face a blocked fallopian tube. This condition is identified by the presence of a blockage in one or two of your fallopian tubes.
Your fallopian tubes are thin tubes found on each side of your uterus. Its significant role is to function as a channel where the matured egg that is released from the ovary will pass and travel all the way to your uterus. Normally, the egg will simply slide down with ease as it passes through the tube but there are instances when this is not possible because its path has been blocked by a growth in the lining. This is when the woman is diagnosed to have a blocked fallopian tube.
So how does all of these relate to a woman's infertility?
The reason that the egg makes that journey to the uterus is to wait for a sperm to help it become fertilized and become an ovum and eventually a baby after nine months. However, if one or both of your fallopian tubes are blocked, it is not able to reach its destination which is the uterus. When a woman is unable to get pregnant due to this condition, it is referred to as tubal factor infertility.
Being diagnosed with a blocked fallopian tube can be pretty devastating. But all hopes should not be lost because there are treatments available for this kind of condition and still make pregnancy a possibility.
Your doctor may be able to prescribe you with some fertility drugs to help increase your chances of getting pregnant. This treatment is focused on the side of the fallopian tube that is healthy and unblocked. However, if you have both fallopian tubes blocked, this method may not work.
Another option that you can look into and one that needs minor operation is by opening or unblocking the tube. This surgery is called laparoscopy. An important factor that needs to be kept in mind when you choose to employ this method is that the chances of a successful result depend on the age of the patient. Your fertility deteriorates as you age, so the younger you are while undergoing this procedure, the better. Another factor to consider is the seriousness of the blockage. There is also the risk of an ectopic pregnancy if you decide to go for surgery to correct your blocked fallopian tube.
There are certain biological factors that cause infertility that are beyond our control. However, these factors are not necessarily untreatable. The best advice would be to know the condition and talk to a medical expert.
