Ringworm is not a worm at all, but rather a fungal infection that can appear anywhere on the skin, especially in warm, moist areas. It will appear as a reddened ring on the skin, but can also be on hair shafts in people and animals. Knowing the proper way to treat ringworm is yet another issue.
Ringworm in the cat appears in the form of little round spots from the size of a ten-cent piece to the size of a quarter-dollar. Sometimes the various spots run into each other and form irregular-shaped spots, the edges of which, however, always assume the rounded form.
In these spots the hairs are broken off, leaving little bristling points only protruding from the roots. The surface of the skin itself is covered by a crusty scab, which, if peeled or rubbed off, shows a slight discharge below.
Ringworm, or tinea, is a fungal infection of the skin, usually around areas of the body that produce a lot of sweat such as the armpits, the feet, or groin area. It is also highly contagious, easily transmitted simply by making direct contact to the fungal spores.
Ringworm develops in a moist, tropical climate and exposure to damp soil and infected pets are often responsible for their spread. Ringworm is contagious in nature and if you use personal objects of an infected person, you can develop ringworm symptoms. This is why people with a weak defense system are more susceptible to this fungal infection.

Believe it or not, the human body actually has some fungi and bacteria which it needs in order to survive. Sometimes these fungi multiply giving us rashes, in this case ringworm. You can have ringworm in any part of your body including your scalp and even your nails.
If you have ringworm in your body you will notice circular rashes with defined edges where it's mostly red though in the center looks like your normal skin tone.
If you have ringworm in your scalp, you will notice a reddish bald spot which if severe can be oozing and actually look like an open wound.
Originating from China, tea tree oil has been used to treat ringworms. As one of the most widely accepted cure, studies will still have to prove that it actually kills the fungi that are the source of ringworm infection.
You have to keep in mind too that other skin diseases like jock itch or ringworm may also occur if you have athlete's foot. The fungi that cause infection on the foot usually are acquired from damp or moist places such as swimming pools or locker rooms. If you go barefoot on these places, or if you share shoes with an infected person, you would most likely get athlete's foot also.
