How to Use Decorative Gravel to Improve Your Landscaping
People are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to add dimensions of style to the outside of their homes
. One way, which is not terribly new, but does add style to the exterior area of the house, is using decorative gravel. This material can come in different shapes and sizes and can fit a variety of projects that will definitely add pizazz to a home.
One of the projects that can be undertaken is a large rock pathway. These can be added to the front or back yard and can lead to any location. Not only are these pathways great additions to look at, but they can be useful as well. By adding one of these to the yard, people don't have to walk across grass to get to sheds and other areas on someone's property.
Waterfalls and other kinds of water based effects can be added when gravel is used as a decorative item on the exterior of the home. A gravel base will allow the water can be recycled back into the waterfall, which promotes a continuous flow of water in the machine. Grass yards soak up the water causing a higher water bill, so before installing any waterfall, be sure to lay it in a firm gravel base.
For people who like to garden, using gravel as a base surrounding the plants found here can really bring their colors to life. Plants in regular gardens do not stand out because of the green surroundings in which they are usually found. By adding gravel around the plants, the green and other colors around the plants become much more definitive. Zen gardens are a good example of using gravel to garden.
Another way to use stones in the yard is by setting them up to be a focal point of the yard. Using a stone patch in the yard where a mobile awning and chairs can be placed is an elegant way to enjoy the yard. They serve as pseudo-patio areas where friends and family can convene to enjoy a nice day outside.
Utilizing decorative gravel is an innovative way to bring life to any exterior area of the home. They come in different sizes and shapes, which allows for a variety of looks that will make general home appearance much nicer. People can make pathways, use this material instead of mulch, set up a focal point, or install a waterfall and other effects when choosing gravel as a decorative substance.
