I believe there is a worldwide scourge; an obsession so do speak. This fixation is with cash (Yen or Pesos, or whatever else). Don't get me wrong here. I love money as much as anyone. I went to school and received a Masters in Accounting - I'm awesome at counting money for god's sake

The predicament isn'tthat people want money. The problem is that rather than treating money as a means to an end, people are treating money as THE end. Anyone knows that they want money, but how many people realistically know what they want to achieve with it? Everyone knows that they want to be wealthy. But how many people know what they would achieve if they actually were wealthy? How many people have actually identified what rich even signifies for them?

I'm not here to critique anyone whose sole goal is to get rich. I have friends who love money for the sake of money. They love to earn it. They love to have it. They love to keep it. And that's ok. But I do not believe that this is the case for the majority of people. I think that the majority of people dream, and focus on, being "wealthy" so that their life could be different.

This way of thinking is a bit misguided. Stop focusing on the money primarily. It is time to live in a new monetary unit: experiences.

Rather than focusing on growing your bank account so that some day your life could be different, focus on experiences you would like to have instead. Create a list of objectives that you want to complete and analyze it. How much wealth do you realistically need in order to have the experiences you want to, for lack of a better word, experience.

How much income do you need to earn in a year to achieve your target? How much do you need to earn in a month? A week? Per day?

Now you have a actual number (us accountants adore those). You are no longer residing in an imaginary world of being "rich." Instead, you have a actual target to aimfor.
