. But before start building your website, you should create a website strategy. It looks simple to build a website but without a strategy you will not get what you want to show your viewers. Here are some tips to build your website strategy.

Set your target audience: Never create a website without having a clear idea of your target audience. Though the Internet reaches all over the world, the world is not your audience, but only a limited section. A website in one city should target onlTitly the city and its neighboring suburbs. A large scale business website is not to be meant for a small customer nor is a web developing website for job seeker. Your target audience should dictate your content. It should mend your marketing approaches.

Watch the pulse of your audience: You should ask yourself: "What are the expectations of my customer from my website? Am I providing those features to them?" For example, parents looking for the daycare service on the Web will need the location of the daycare, which means a map and very clear directions. They also want a schedule of activities for their children and a bunch of other things. Your website must give them what they expect.

How others are doing: Make a list of the top sites in your field. Study minutely the different information on their site. Know the technology they are using to serve their content. Understand what makes people visit to these websites and what makes these websites successful.

Set the measurement of your success: You should have the measures of success to know the performance of your website. These metrics will let you know your performance and help you making improvements. Here are some metrics that you should understand: Traffic metrics, Transaction metrics and Customer satisfaction.

You should create your benchmarks: Benchmarks help you to get an idea of how others are doing relative to your performance. When you know how others are doing, you get a clearer picture of your performance. Make a list of websites of your league and then simply write down their good and bad qualities. If you score you are doing well, otherwise give a second look.

Your task: When you have identified your audience for your website, the next step will be to determine what you will do for them. What will you give them? Information? Products? Or a cheaper price? Moreover how will your site be a valuable resource for them?

Your leading qualities: But most challenging of them is that what are your leading qualities? May be, there are hundreds, if not millions, other websites offering the same information, product or services already. And even they are far ahead of your site. And people know these sites.

You should think how you will differentiate your site from the others. Why will people go to your website instead of your others? Your audience need to think that you are unmatched, a cut above the rest, and even irreplaceable.
