How to calm a baby with colic symptoms

A baby with colic and colic symptoms is every parents nightmare. A baby with colic is known to cry at LEAST 3 hours a day and at minimum 3 times a week. A little over 20% of newborns suffer with colic symptoms. Colic is defined by out of control crying of a baby of 3 weeks up to 5 months in age. This is a very lengthy time for parents of colicky babies!

There were a few things that we used at our home, to assistance with our youngest and his colic symptoms, that seemed to work wonders! Our son is almost over his colic phase but we still have our awful days and still use the same remedies to help his colic symptoms.

First best thing to help with colic symptoms is white noise. White noise is any continual noise with the same tone such as running a vacuum cleaner, washing machine, hair dryer, etc. This is a great way to calm your colicky baby. Also taking a ride around the block is a great ideal way to handle colic symptoms. Riding in the car is great since the baby gets that snugged feeling in the carseat, the movement of you rocking him/her and the white noise of your car.

Submerging your baby's stomach in water is a great way to help too. This is said to help release some uncomfortable pressure off the baby. We use to bathe our son in a baby bowl bath that was just right for him since it submerged him all the way up to his shoulders. It helped with his colic symptoms and kept him warm. There are also many many different gripe waters out there that are said to help your child's colic symptoms. Not all help some babies. What works for your neighbor's baby may not work for your baby's colic symptoms.

Helping a baby with colic is tricky and frustrating. Just have patience and try and try again! Most people tend to feel like they are awful parents, when they can't seem to soothe their screaming baby, but this is completely normal. Just try one thing and if it doesn't seem to help with your baby's colic symptoms then try another. Remember, you're not the only person who has had to go through this and your not the only person who has felt frustrated and distressed.
