How to do a Droid repair for a GPS Problem

Numerous consumers have complained about GPS problems with their Droid cell phones

. Many of the problems have to do with lost

GPS signals. When using mapping programs, the cell phone can't find your GPS location might report that it is searching for

GPS forever or that it can't find current location. Following much searching on the Internet and considerable trial and

error, these are some of the methods that have been used to repair this problem that users have reported.

Method 1

First, you need to reset the cell phone by turning the power off and then back on. It is believed that task management

applications may be killing the applications that are currently using the GPS. If these applications are killed while you are

using it, the GPS might no longer be able to use the GPS. It appears that a hard reset of the cell phone GPS hardware allows

it to function properly again.

Method 2

For this method to work you need to power the cell phone off, take the battery out, wait for a few minutes, return the

battery back to its rightful place and then power the cell phone back on. This repair has been reported by a number of users

to have worked. This repair is similar to Method 1, but it is believed that the GPS might have some standby power that allows

it to stay in a bad state. The removal of the battery removes the power and permits the GPS to reset to a proper state and

function properly again.

Method 3

In order to do this repair you have to enable a screen timeout for a long time and then run a GPS application for a few

minutes. It is believed that the GPS might be turning off as if it has lost its GPS signal for some period of time. Therefore

it takes some time to reestablish the GPS signal. But, since most cell phones have a timeout of the default screen for as

much as two minutes, the GPS application might not have sufficient time to get it reestablished. The users need to enable a

screen timeout for a longer period of time, by first going to settings, then sound and display, and last to a screen timeout.

They then need to use a GPS application for a few minutes.

You can also try the GPS Test or any of the other GPS testing applications that exist. If all else fails you will simply have

to wait until the service provider comes up with a repair for this problem.
