How to dress to impress at an interview

Now that the recession is starting to bite and jobs are becoming harder to find, it has never been more important to dress correctly for an interview.

People wrongly assume that only when you are applying for an office job, do you need to wear a suit or business attire. Regardless of wether the job you are applying for is with a blue chip employer or a local shop first impressions count.

Potential employers look at how you, the candidate will represent his or her company, so it is very important to create the right impression.

Studies have shown that people make their minds up about someone else within thirty seconds of meeting them, you only get one chance to impress so do not let it slip by.

Lets assume you are applying for your dream job in a large organistion, you need to look the part and that you can easily fit in.

Look at your current wardrobe and ask your self what would you as an employer think of you and the clothes you are wearing.

There are three essentials you must have , a good suit jacket, a pair of nice trousers and some good shoes. Jeans, hoodies and trainers are fine for day wear but for interviews business attire is a must have.

Attention to detail suggests that you have made the effort to create the best impression. Think about your nails, your accessories, your shoes. Nothing is less impressive than a pair of scuffed shoes teamed with a crisp and professional suit.

We all have our own unique style, but for interviews conformity is the norm.

Firstly choose a neutral colour jacket, bold and bright may be good for nights out, but for an interview try and stick to black or grey. Next the shirt, loud shirts may help show off your individuality, but experience says crisp white or blue are best. With the trousers, again stick to grey or black, finally the shoes make sure they are well polished and scuff free.

No one is suggesting that canidates should get the job soley on how the look, but you do not want to fall at the first hurdle.
