Sites like reddit, stumbleupon and even digg are goldmines. Just submit a link and watch the visitors pile up. Reddit can yield as much as 80 visitors on its own. Use words that are catchy to capture the user's attention but don't be misleading because that will have an adverse effect.
This method has the downside of handing a high bounce rate. That is unless you can optimize your site and win the attention of the ever so impatient user. The best way to counter bounce rates is good navigation. Have a clear menu on your site and add links at the end of your articles. This allows the user to move from page to page with ease. The change this could make to your bounce rate is really noticeable.
Another goldmine is facebook. Just link your new article to your friends and surely some will visit. You can also make a fan page and those who are interested in your site will join. That will allow you to constantly update them with the latest content.
Note that on facebook its good to consider that people don't want to be spammed by your fan page so keep your messages down to 2 a week tops unless your niche asks for otherwise.
