How to enable Tablet PC components for your touchscreen monitor

If you own a Windows Tablet device running on Windows 7, you will notice that there are some additional set of interface application which are not available for normal PC users. These applications are developed exclusively for Tablet PC devices and include features like handwriting recognition and Windows Journal. But that shouldn't stop average desktop PC users from enjoying these features, right? Especially, if you've just bought a touch screen monitor.

So, how do we enable the Windows Tablet PC components in Windows 7? This article will show you how.

The latest operating system from Microsoft, Windows 7, natively supports tablet PCs and other computing devices which use touch screens as input device. It means, you don't have to install additional packages or drivers to enable this feature on your computer. Tablet PC components are already included and shipped together with Windows 7 software.

However, not all computers come pre-installed with the Tablet PC components. It is because the Tablet PC components are optional features and aren't installed by default during express installation. If you have used custom installation, chances are that you might have forgotten to include them or overlooked it.

How to turn on Tablet PC Components in Windows 7

In any case, you have to login with an account that has administrative priviliges. Then go to Start>Control Panel>Programs>Programs and Features. On the sidebar, click on the Turn Windows Features On or Off.

You will arrive at the Turn Windows Features On or Off window. Through this window, you can install or uninstall any of the Windows 7 features.

How to Turn Windows 7 Features On or Off

From the list of features, find and locate a folder titled Tablet PC Components. The contents of the folder will be as follows:-

1. Tablet PC Input Panel

2. Windows Journal

3. Math Input Panel

4. Other Hand Writing Recognition Features

Anyway, click on the checkbox adjacent to the Tablet PC Components folder to enable this feature. Then click the OK button and follow the onscreen instructions.You may have to provide administrative permission to install and/or turn on these components depending on which Windows 7 features you are using on your PC.

Turn On Windows 7 Tablet PC Components

If you had followed my instructions up to this point, all four sub-components of Tablet PC will be installed. Unfortunately, in Windows 7, you can't customize which of the sub-components to install. It is either all available or none available. However, if you want to get most out of your touch screen, it is best to install all the sub-components.
