How to find quality lodging near Poas Volcano in Costa Rica

Pos volcano in Costa Rica is one of the most visited volcanoes in the country. It also boasts the largest crater and at 2704 metres above sea level, it enjoys remarkable views. However, for such a visited area there is a lack of quality lodging for tourists. During my time in Costa Rica I have visited Pos volcano on many occasions and often stayed a night or two to be able to enjoy the areas beauty and cool climate. I have stayed at several of the local lodges and cabinas and often found myself sleeping in a less than clean and comfortable environment. For those of you travelling to this area, I have some recommendations for lodging and meals that may make your stay more enjoyable and worth the time and money. Pos volcano clouds over very quickly and so it is important to arrive at the Pos volcano national park early in order to have the best chance of seeing the main crater in all its glory. It is best to stay in a lodge close to the volcano to avoid spending too much time getting to the volcano in the morning. My only choice for quality accommodation near the volcano is Pos Lodge. It is just 3 miles from the entrance of Pos volcano national park and is without a doubt the best choice in the area. Two lodges in the same area that are best to avoid are Lo Que Tu Quieras and Lagunillas Lodge. Although they are both featured in guide books such as the Lonely Planet, they are very run down and not at all suited to anyone who enjoys clean linen or clean bathrooms. The Lonely Planet should be ashamed of promoting lodges that do not make an effort to put their guests comfort ahead of milking them of $30 to $40 to sleep in a dirty bed. Pos Lodge has been my home away from home on a few occasions now and I have always been made to feel special and very welcome. Their rooms are very clean and by the looks of it have recently been repainted. The bedding also looks and feels new. If you want to enjoy a good meal close to the volcano I also recommend Pos Lodge for their varied menu and good quality dishes. They have their menu uniquely displayed and they change the choices regularly. They also are the only place in the area that offers typical and international style dishes. The tables are set with linen napkins, they have a roaring fireplace and use loads of candles to create a warm atmosphere and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Another good choice is Colberts near Vara Blanca. The French food is very good although the restaurant lacks good lighting and it feels as if you are eating in a laboratory. Pos Volcano is a great location and has much to offer in terms of beauty and awe inspiring views. If you decide to stay in the lush part of the world, make Pos Lodge your first choice.About the Author:
