How to fix a HP DV6000 that will not Recognize the Wireless Card After Windows Vista Upgrade

Hello there. I bet a lot of you encounter wireless problem with the HP laptops specially with the DV6000 series. We run over this problem a lot in our Brooklyn computer repair shop and we found a quick fix that will share with you in this article.

There are two situations regarding the HP laptops DV series including DV1000, DV2000, DV6000, DV9000 and TX1000: first when the laptop will not recognize the wireless after an operating system update (we found this problem mostly on Windows Vista operating system) and the second one when your laptop will not recognize the wireless suddenly when you turn it on.

For the first one the problem appear mostly before the Vista service pack 2 update, when your laptop will show and run only the Local area connection, and not on both: local area and wireless. To fix this problem first go on the HP website, on the drivers download and download the driver for your model. Do not run it yet. Go Start, Right click on Computer, Properties, Device manager, and on theNetwork adapters uninstall the ITAP connection. After go on Windows updates, make sure you do not have any hidden updates and search for update. Run install for the updates (Windows Vista Service pack 2). After install and restart, check if you have onDevice manager the wireless network set it up, if not install the driver that you downloaded from the HP website and make sure that your wireless button it is enabled (the front panel button must show blue color not red ). For sure this will fix your wireless problem when related to software malfunctions.

For the second problem you are facing a hardware failure - the motherboard. If you own a computer repair shop, or you are handy with open a laptop and assembling it back, you might try a re-flow of your video chipset. If you do not have experience in laptop hardware, you will have the other option, to buy an USB wireless card that can be easily connected to one of your USB ports, the operating system will recognize it fast and you will not need to install the drivers for it.

Also, when you have problems connecting to the internet check your computer for viruses, in most of the cases the virus or the ad-ware will create a local connection, trying to not let you surf the web or redirecting all your search to their website. You will need to delete this connection from Device manager, make updates on your antivirus program (Malwarebytes, Spybot search and destroy, etc) and remove the virus or ad-ware after.

Hope this article will help you fixing the laptop wireless problem. Good luck.
