The name blog came from combining the 2 words "web log" into 1 word. A blog is quite simple in the fact that it is a platform that allows you to post your experiences and thoughts about a subject, to the internet. Blogs can be used for just about anything you want such as a journal, marketing, writing, or even just keeping ideas all in one spot. For beginning bloggers, there are a couple of things you will want to learn, especially if you want to use your blog for promoting and marketing. If you are new, you might want to just start off using your blog for a journal or just writing in order to get the hang of how it all works. That way you will understand how to update and make sure your blog runs smoothly without risking loosing any money from promoting your blog before you know how to blog. Once you get the hang of how things work or how to maintain your blog, it will be easier to make the transition to marketing with your blog. There are many different ways to make money off of your blog. This is an entire book on it's own so we will not get into how you will do it, but rather focus on being consistent with blogging. Never before has it been so simple to get the word out about anything, promoting a blog is a relatively easy process. It will only get complicated if you let it become complicated. There are many bloggers out there pulling in 6 figure incomes from blog marketing, so it can be done. The main thing to understand is that it will take work. There is no substitute for hard work. This is not a get rich quick type of business. The main thing to do especially if you are a beginner, is start out small, be consistent and grow from there. Every successful blogger started out with 1 blog and worked with it consistently. Once they have one under control, they add another and so on. The key is to not let them fall behind and be constantly building all of them. This will become easier as you get to know how the process works. The real successful bloggers eventually outsource a lot of the menial tasks and will then just manage all of the outsourcing going on. This is how they are able to run many highly successful blogs at the same time. Once your blog starts making you even the smallest amount of money, you will start to really get excited and want to take it to the next level. Just remember, start the next one the same way you got the first one to be successful. You will find out in a hurry that there is no substitute for hard work and consistency. It can seem like you are not getting anywhere at first. But if you keep at it, you will eventually break through some barriers for success.
