How to increase your average sales by using your point of sale software

Many retailers overlook a simple aspect to increase sales

. In fact this aspect makes the customers bond with the retailer on a personal level, taking the relationship between the retailer and the customer to a totally new dimension.

Now this aspect is a very simple thing that just needs some common sense and a business nose' to identify the business acumen that would end in good sales. I tell this from my personal experience as I did face some constraints when I purchased a commodity that was dear to my heart, was costly for my standards and nevertheless purchased it as I felt I needed it at that point of time.

I have been waiting for the right time to purchase therapeutic shoes for my aching feet for quite some time. I decided to do so when I saw a store offering the same for a good discount. So I went to the store, browsed around a bit, spoke to the sales people, deliberated on the type that would suit my feet and my lifestyle with them, and finally made the purchase that I had been putting off for quite some time. I was excited and wanted to try them out the very next day. I put them on and went to work. By mid day I realised that the insoles were getting a bit tight after I walked around in them for sometime. I rang up the store and enquired if this occurred with all new shoes. The sales person was unable to give me a satisfactory reply; hence I decided to take the shoes to the retail outlet the very same day after work. Upon examining my shoes, the retail owner advised that I would need to trim my insoles that were longer than my foot size. The manufacturer of those particular insoles would generally give larger ones so that customers could trim them according to their feet size. Now this wasn't told to me when I bought the shoes yesterday. I was a bit disappointed as I had to give the shoes and my sole measurements, to the store owner for getting it right. Now this would take two days. And I had to wait two more days to start wearing them.

Just imagine if the retailer would have sold me the shoes with the advice that the insoles were generally a bit longer than the foot size of the shoe, not only would I have been a happy customer because I didn't have to go back, but I also would get the "full experience" that I wanted.

Not to mention, the therapeutic retailer would have made more money on a bigger sale. But instead he lost a sale and maybe a loyal customer.

Now this is what every retailer needs to understand how important it is to make sure that the customers get everything' they need in the first place.

This concept applies to any type of business be it electronics, eye-glass retailers, or shoe store owners.

If the retailer were able to add more sales just 5% of the time! How much would that add to his revenue and profits? This is where POS software can help...

Most POS systems include "add-on sales" features that allows a retailer to associate add-on products and include some special notes for the sale.

So in my case when the cashier sells the specially designed shoes a message would appear (before they give the final price) that reminds them to inform the customer about the length of the insoles and that the store would be happy to trim it to size if the insole is longer than the sole of the customer!

The software could even display a special script so the cashier knows exactly how to sell those shoes with the insoles. Thus POS system can be a great tool for all types of retailers to increase the average size of their sales.
