Criteria to be thought for a speed training session.

Speed means increasing the velocity or rate of performing any activity or task. The speed plan is not only designed to increase the rate of work but it also aims that the participant must feel comfortable while performing the same activity in less time and should maintain the same pace. Some of the parameters that are to be considered while designing an effective speed training session are:

It must aim to accelerate. Speed training plans must aim to speed up and it should always aim on increasing the speed of the activity. Acceleration is must to make the body feel comfortable at higher levels because simply working on same parameters will not help the athlete perform better than others.

The training plan must be designed so as to help the person maintain their velocity of work against the onset of tiredness. Ideal speed training would be considered the one that will help an individual to work in stressed conditions and that too conveniently. Body when learns to adapt itself with stressful conditions reaches a higher level of performance.

An effective training plan would also aim at decreasing the reaction timing of various activities. A speed training plan would be a complete failure if the body does not react quickly to the changing activities and tasks. One needs to work extensively to improve this parameter of decreasing the reaction time speed and this would only be raised if the reaction time is lowered else putting efforts to perform better has no use if one doesn't work faster.


The speed training sessions must aim to decrease the deceleration. The rate to slow down must also be decreased as this would give a larger amount of time to perform the activity.

A proper warm-up session is must before the beginning of the training, this is due to the fact that immediately starting exercising with enhanced speed would lead to tearing of the muscles and ligaments and thus would cause an injury. The various sports injuries are found to affect in long run and people not following the proper warm up session often get injured as the body doesn't get ready to take up such a large amount of load instantly.

A good speed training session will be also aiming at increasing the coordination of the person. The coordination and disciplinary work in any activity would always help in giving better results and thus would help as a balancing device between performance and relaxation.

There are numerous ways to increase speed and various speed training techniques are being followed, yet one must consider some of the basics to these acceleration sessions to get the best and do well.
