Putting in contact lenses can be frustrating for many people. However, it doesnt have to be! Putting in contact lenses is easy and after you get the hang of it putting them in will be second nature.
So how do you start?
Preparation:
-Make sure you have a clean area to work with. This is important because you wouldnt want to drop you contact lenses and have them land on a dirty surface or fall down a drain.
-Wash your hands. Dirty hands can irritate the eyes or cause infection.
-Have a mirror handy that you can get close enough to in order to see your eye clearly.
Taking your contact lenses out of the case:
-Take out one of your contacts from the case. Always start with the same eye every time you put your contact lenses in. This will prevent you from mixing up your contacts.
-When taking the contact out be gentle. Either pour it out onto your hand or take it out carefully without rubbing the contact lens against the case.
-Check to confirm your contact is not inside out. You can do this by looking at the edge of your contact. A rounded edge is correct. A sharp edge is a sign the contact is inside out.
-Rinse the contact lens with solution. Use the solution your optometrist recommended to you.
Inserting your contact lenses:
-Put the contact lens on your right index finger. All edges facing up.
-Use your left hand to hold your upper eyelid open.
-Use your right middle finger to hold your lower lid open.
-Now tilt your chin down while continuing to look at the mirror. This will allow you to have an upward glance. If you have a correct glance a lot of the white of the eye will be exposed.
-Carefully place the contact lens on the eye. There is no need to push it on or force the contact lens on. Gently set the contact lens on the eye.
-When the lens is on your eye, slide it over the cornea (colored part) of your eye.
-Now look downward at the floor and close your eyes.
Open your eyes and your contact lens should be comfortably in your eye.
