How to setup open source ERP Apache OFBiz with your company data in 15 minutes
Like with the game of chess, you can only start if all parts are in their start position. This is the same as with the OFBiz ERP system, OFBiz is providing this start with the means of demo data. But how to set-up ofbiz using your own information on your local PC with the possibility to use this data on a production server? This blog will provide an answer by using the build-in 'setup' component, written, and now updated by us. It will guide you through the process of installation, initialization, entering your initial data and the start of the system. Installation: Download thelatest version of OFBiz which is preferred above the released versions because of the latest enhancements. (1036323 or later) Extract the files in your 'home' (Linux) or your disk root directory (Windows: do not use 'program files'!) DownloadJava the "JDK" version 6. and select the correct version for your platform. Initialization: (Also explained in the README file in the ofbiz root directory) Open a command line window and enter the following commands after the selecting (cd command) the ofbiz directory:
First make sure the internal database is empty:
linux: ./ant clean-all
windows: ant.bat clean-all
Then create the tables and load the seed data which is required for the functioning of the system and execute the following command in the ofbiz home directory:
linux: ./ant run-install-extseed
windows: ant.bat run-install-extseed
..this can run for a while.......
Then run the next command to create the admin user :
linux: ./ant create-admin-user-login
windows: ant.bat create-admin-user-login
You have now an installed system. Start the background system. To create the background server task, run in the OFBiz home directory: linux: ./startofbiz.sh windows: startofbiz.bat Wait until the command line window stops scrolling. Create your own setup data. In order to startup the setup wizard, start your browser with the url:https://localhost:8443/ofbizsetup , confirm the certification, enter the admin loginid you created earlier and enter the password: ofbiz. The system will ask you to update this password and enter that.
You are now in the system and can create the initial data. If you need assistance press the help button. After creating the company go through all the buttons and enter that data of:
The main, owner accounting company.
The warehouse name for
The e-commerce product store
The website name
The first customer name and login.
Create a catalog, category and first product within the category
Now check the entered data, and where required update it. If you feel everything is correctly set up, then you can save the entered data in an xml file, to import into other ofbiz systems for example a production server. After that, press the 'complete' button. This will fix the company settings and will be used by the system. The system will redirect to the catalog manager where you will be asked to login again with the admin user you created. You can also list the existing parties in the party manager: applications party Using the system. Use the following url's in your browser: Starting the frontend: https://localhost:8443/catalog Starting the e-commerce: http://localhost:8080/ecommerce Stop the background job, press 'ctrl-c'
