It is really different from what video game players are used to. Obviously, it is still WAR going on in Crysis 2, like most shooters, but the game definitely feels more lively and colorful than what you would expect to see while holding a gun, and we're not talking about a cartoonish shooter either. The environment of the Crysis 2 map Skyline is a great example. The map is located on the top of a building in the middle of New York City. The rooftop has only been partially destroyed, leaving some plants alive in the greenhouses located there. There's also an enormous and beautiful glasshouse topping the map. Waterfalls even found their own in the decor, making the environment surprisingly colorful for a war-themed shooter. There's even a gym located in the middle of the skyscraper and a loud radio was left turned on, forcing you to hear the motivating music as you pass by. You might be surprised and thrown a bit of balance by such details when you play the game for the first time, but after a while it all makes sense it's not like everything is going to stop moving and functioning in the city simply because aliens are invading the place. Crysis 2 doesn't have a light or happy tone despite these additions though, it's just that the environment doesn't feel as "dead" as some other shooting games. The Crysis 2 developers definitely didn't want you to fight in a boring environment.

It is indeed a welcomed departure from the usual environment we've accustomed ourselves to look at in games like Call Of Duty, where the colors are usually bland and well exactly what you would expect when war hits the world. Crysis 2 has some sort of fun unpredictability to its environment. The technological war-theme of Crysis 2 made it possible for the creators to make an environment different from a battlefield filled with missile craters and trenches. Refreshing.

Still around the map Skyline, the view around of the city has more to it than the common "decor-filler" you can really feel like you're fighting on top of a building.
