Hp Laserjet 5000 Wide Format, Tabliod Size Laser Printer
For workgroups with the unique demand for 11 x 17 inch output
, a tabloid printer is usually the best, if not only, in house option. Though the printers run very high in price compared to their legal sized counterparts, discontinued models, such as the HP LaserJet 5000 can be purchased at reasonable rates. With specifications that may seem slow in comparison to standard monochrome laser devices, the main appeal, and ultimately the only reason to consider an oversized printer, is its ability to print in wide format.
The HP LaserJet 5000 operates at a speed of up to 16 MBs per second in best quality mode, which places it somewhere in the middle of its class. Unless truly rapid output and high volume are necessary for your business needs, this print speed should serve most workloads quite nicely. HPs zero warm up time is also helpful in keeping things moving along, especially with single page prints as would often be seen when dealing with the large format. With Instant On fuser technology, first page out time can be as fast as 13 seconds.
A build in 100 MHz RISC processor and 4 MBs of on board memory assist the device in toughing out those large or complex print demands, but, if more memory is required for a specific need, the HP LaserJet 5000 allows for upgrades up to a total maximum memory capacity up to 164 MBs.
With such a large paper size, one would expect a large printer, and the HP LaserJet 5000s footprint of 19 in x 23 in x 13 in (W x D x H) is quite reasonable, along with its weight of 50 pounds. Additional paper trays can add to the overall height of the unit and bring the devices total potential paper storage capacity up to 1,100 sheets. Standard paper storage rests at an awkward 350 sheets, while output capacity is 300 sheets composed of 250 sheets up top and 50 in the rear. Output capacity is non expandable.
Other additional hardware options include a hard disk drive for long term or permanent retention of frequently needed data. While the HP LaserJet 5000s print resolution is decent by all black and white standards, topping out at 1200 dots per inch, it still falls short of any sort of photo quality. Still, REt resolution enhancement paired up with HPs Ultra Precise Toner allow for excellent precision when dealing with charts or graphs.
HP Prores 1200 can be selected for best image enhancement or, if speed is your primary concern, the HP LaserJet 5000 can operate in FastRes mode which still provides full 1200 x 1200 resolution, but, without enhancement, is much faster.
With a maximum monthly duty cycle of 65,000 pages, the HP LaserJet 5000 is sure to last for quite a while even under grueling conditions. Customizability options, such as an external duplexer, further cement the HP LaserJet 5000 as a possible office essential when dealing with large formats, and is sure to suit any small office well.
