Hp Laserjet Pro P1566 Stripped Down, Low Cost Laser Printer
Thanks to the power of HPs FastRes technology
, a high resolution, true 1200 x 1200 dot per inch quality is achievable at full print speed with the HP LaserJet Pro P1566, though HP does include a disclaimer in their product specifications that states that the exact print speed will vary depending on system configuration, software application, driver, and document complexity.
With a maximum print speed of up to 22 pages per minute, the HP LaserJet Pro P1566 is a performer for speed and, with HP FastRes, is especially appealing for those with demand sets that involve not only rapid print times, but high quality as well. Also impressive is the devices incredibly fast 7 second warm up time, which is easily one of the fastest warm up times on the market from auto off mode.
The HP LaserJet Pro P1566s maximum monthly duty cycle is quite limited considering its speed of print, with only 8,000 pages allowed. A much lower 250 to 2,000 pages per month is all HP recommends using for optimal performance, but they do back the product with a comprehensive, one year limited warranty that includes web and phone based technical support.
Standard memory is limited, at only 8 MBs, but what is much more disappointing is the units lack of a 100 pin DIMM slot for memory expansion, capping the device at its stock RAM, and strictly threatening the units ability to operate at top speed when dealing with comlex print projects. The HP LaserJet Pro P1566s processor is moderate, clocking in at a solid 266 MHz.
The units input tray of a 250 sheet capacity is also sufficient but, disappointingly, non expansive though, considering the units limited output range, high volumes of paper are not recommended anyway. Assisting slightly in the HP LaserJet Pro P1566s overall paper handling abilities is the units 10 sheet priority feed slot which can be used for special media types such as envelopes, transparencies, and card stock. Special media sizes can also be programmed for compatibility starting as small as postcards and ending as large as standard legal sized paper.
While the HP LaserJet Pro P1566s standard connectivity consists only of a single high speed USB 2.0 port, an HP Jetdirect ew 2500 802.11b/g wireless print server is a possible upgrade for, not only networking, but wireless connectivity as well, making it especially easy to operate the printer via mobile devices such as laptop computers.
Though the unit is Energy Star qualified, its active power consumption runs actually quite high at 420 watts, but a power save mode of 0.9 watts and a standby consumption of only 1.2 watts keeps overall energy usage and costs at a minimum.
Not only should the HP LaserJet Pro P1566 be considered a bare bones unit, its complete lack of expandability ensures that it is designed to stay that way. Its obvious that HP intended the device as a stripped down, low cost personal printer and, with its light weight and small footprint, it succeeds as being just that.
