The HTC7 Mozart itself is keen to offer you incentives such as the aluminum unibody design and some exclusive customizations courtesy of HTC. But first of all, the Mozart is a cameraphone and is venturing where no other WP7 has been.8-megapixel-and-Xenon is a place where HTC have never been before either.The HTC 7 Mozart is the most daring in terms of design of the three HTC Windows Phone 7 handsets. With a matte finish, asymmetrical battery cover and a raised swirl pattern on the reverse, it might not be to everyone's taste.The Super LCD screen measures in at 3.7 inches and has a resolution of 480x800 pixels.The triangular battery cover slides off the bottom of the HTC 7 Mozart to reveal the battery which when unsecured, pops out leaving a SIM card slot in its tracks.To the left is the microUSB port, and a chrome-like volume rocker, and to the right, a two stage camera button.
Interface
Windows Phone 7 is an aesthetically unified OS, visually bringing all its functionality into a Zune inspired system of panels and panning. This looks great on the HTC 7 Mozart.The Start screen is composed of an array of live tiles, most of which update with useful information or recent images as appropriate.This means your Home screen is always changing it's a nice touch but does mean the tiles that don't have any live information (eg Internet Explorer) are a bit dull and staid.The HTC 7 Mozart doesn't seem to like loading the animation-heavy hub when battery is getting a little bit low, which isn't ideal.The illustrious Orange Wednesday app will no doubt go down well, giving you two-for-one cinema tickets on a Wednesday as well as film reviews and details of your nearest cinema.Core phone functions like calling and text messaging are accessed from the Home screen, as long as you keep the relevant icons pinned to the main page.The interface is by no means perfect; there's a lot going on here but at the same time so many steps have been removed that we can't help but feel a little limited by the operating system.
Phonebook, Messaging and Organizer
The HTC7 Mozart phone book falls under the people tile. This offers very tight integration with Facebook, with a right swipe from your contact list taking you to friend's recent updates.Messaging is also a pleasure for the most part. The keyboard is a good size on the HTC 7 Mozart both in portrait and landscape and the predictive text is very good indeed. The keyboard looks clean and simple with no gradients in sight which is great, though no copy and paste means functionality is hampered slightly, though Microsoft promises this in the near future.Organizer features include alarms, calculator, calendar and notes. The calendar is the most finger friendly we've used in a while, looking very clean and feeling really intuitive. Adding appointments is simple, and the whole experience was a pleasure in every aspect other than the aforementioned section regarding multiple Google calendars.
Camera and Multimedia
The HTC7 Mozart handsome unibody chassis and the 8 megapixel camera (with Xenon flash), there's also the now-common 1GHz Snapdragon chipset, along with a sharp 3.7-inch SLCD (with better color reproduction and viewing angle than the HD7's) and 8GB storage capacity. On the front there are three backlit capacitive buttons below the screen, whereas above the screen you see a shiny grill for the earpiece plus an LED indicator underneath.With Zune on board, the music experience is a giant step in the right direction for Windows. In fact, the music feels more integrated on Windows Phone 7 than on any platform other than iOS, and if you own a Zune, even more so than that.The phone will play MPEG-4 and WMV files, and the Zune software will convert other video formats to supported ones, which is handy, but will leave you waiting a while for your movies to sync, also depending on the performance of your computer. Watching movies and videos on the HTC 7 Mozart is great. While not as visually immersive as on the HTC HD7 thanks to the screen size, it nevertheless delivers the goods. With Dolby Mobile and SRS on board, great sound really helped boost the experience, and while colours could have done with a bit more punch, brightness is adequate, playback is smooth and detail is good.
Internet and Connectivity
The HTC7 Mozart speed at which it renders entire web pages on the HTC 7 Mozart is pretty impressive, fitting the whole page to the 3.7-inch screen. From here, zooming in is a pinch-to-zoom affair, and the text re-renders so you don't end up with fuzzy, pixellated text.Multiple sites can be open at once thanks to tabbed browsing up to six tabs can be on the go.There's no Adobe Flash support on the HTC 7 Mozart at present, or indeed on any of the Windows Phone 7 launch handsets. However, Microsoft has included a work-around so that you can view YouTube videos either on YouTube itself or embedded on other sites.One handy web browsing tool is 'find on page' which we also saw on the HTC Wildfire. This enables you to search the text on the web page for the specific area you're interested in. You can also set the HTC 7 Mozart to show you the mobile or full internet version of each site in the settings tab.
Battery live
The HTC 7 Mozart has a 1300 mAh Lithium-ion battery that HTC says should keep you gassing for up to 330 mins with 435 hours of standby time,the charger icon seemed to go down very quickly at first, but if we could have a five-hour conversation on a single charge.For intense use while writing this review, we had to recharge the handset after five hours' use.
Conclusion
The HTC 7 Mozart would blow us away with its camera and music prowess, but our feet remained firmly on the ground. The phone's xenon flash should help out when you're in a dark club or on a spelunking trip, though. Overall, the Mozart is a perfectly sound, solid showcase for Windows Phone 7.
