Huangpu Park - Shanghai's green history discovered
Shaped like a green triangle towards the north of the Shanghai Bund is where visitors will find the the Huangpu Park. It's the smallest park but is also rich in history. The park is also the location of the monument to the People's Heroes'. The statue was erected in memory of all those who toiled to free China from foreign occupation.
The park houses a museum for keen history followers of this part of the world to just browse through. The primary focus of the museum is the documentation of the historical changes that have centered a round the bund. The museum boasts of an interesting collection of photographs of the Bund as well.
The park at the Bund was set up around the year 1886. It was a Public Garden and was the very first Chinese park to be opened to local residents. It was after the Second World War that the park actually inherited its present day name. The borders of the park include the Suzhou Creek which is towards the North and the Huangpu River located towards the Eastern side of the park. The name of the park was incidentally derived from the very same river.
