1. Allergies: While it is well known that some people suffer from pet allergies, not many people know that pets can suffer from allergies as well. Pets can suffer from allergic reactions to pollen, insect bites and food.

2. Bladder Infections: If your house-trained pet suddenly starts having accidents in the house there could be an underlying medical problem such as a bladder infection or bacterial cystitis. If your pet exhibits difficulty or pain when urinating, you should take it to the vet immediately.

3. Arthritis: Arthritis doesn't exclusively target humans; pets can develop this degenerating disease as well. Arthritis also known as a degenerative joint disease usually develops in aging pets as a result of wear and tear but some forms of the disease can affect younger pets. Anti-inflammatory drugs are given to help relieve pain in arthritic pets.

4. Diabetes: Pets can develop diabetes just like humans and they are susceptible to diabetes mellitus as well as diabetes insipidus. Treatment usually consists of insulin injections and daily monitoring of diet.

5. Skin Cancer: Despite the fact that most pets have hair or fur covering most of their skin, they are still susceptible to skin cancers. Light colored pets are at higher risk and pets with white ears, pink noses or light colored patches should be carefully monitored.

6. Gingivitis: Many people mistakenly believe that bad breath is normal in pets, this is not so. Pets, just like their human counterparts, require routine toothcare and cleaning. Food particles left in the pet's mouth causes plaque and tartar buildup which results in bad breath and cavities as well as gum problems.

7. Acne: Dogs and cats can develop acne on the lips and chin and it can be an itchy and painful condition. Treatment usually consists of topical medications.

8. Stomach Ulcers: Stomach ulcers are a serious problem and are usually caused by cancer, drugs, liver or kidney disease, inflammatory bowel disease, stomach inflammation or pancreatitis. Left untreated stomach ulcers can be fatal so it's crucial to seek veterinary advice if your dog is vomiting or showing signs of abdominal discomfort.

9. Cataracts: Cataracts in pets can be caused by malnutrition, radiation, trauma, diabetes, inflammation or aging as is the case with humans; surgery can be used to treat the condition.

10. Laryngitis: Dogs and cats can develop laryngitis from upper respiratory tract infections or irritations from inhalants. Excessive barking or meowing can also led to laryngitis as well, the condition is usually mild and easily treated.
