Since the husky has been bred for a life in which they work pulling a sled in cold climates

, a husky plush dog is a much better alternative to raising the real thing. Huskies need lots of outdoor time and also must be kept on a leash if you don't want to find yourself chasing after them (the call of the wild easily conquers any human attachment); with a husky plush dog, that will never be a problem!

How do you make the perfect sled dog? That's just what researcher's set out to discover by carrying out genetic analysis in 199 sled dogs and 681 purebred dogs from 141 different breeds. Heather Huson from the National Institutes of Heath, Bethesda, United States, has said "the Alaskan sled dog comprises several different lineages, optimized for different racing styles -- long or short distance. We sought to identify breed composition profiles associated with expertise at specific tasks, finding that the Alaskan Malamute and Siberian Husky contributions are associated with enhanced endurance; Pointer and Saluki are associated with enhanced speed and the Anatolian Shepherd has a positive influence on work ethic."

Sled dogs from eight kennels were used in the study and they were all rated for speed, endurance, and work ethic as it related specifically to both sprint and long distance racing. The results of these attributes were then combined with genetic information that was taken from the dogs and compared to breeds which would have been their likely ancestors. Huson said this about the results: "The Alaskan sled dog presents a case in which a genetically distinct breed of dog has been developed through the selection and breeding of individuals based solely on their athletic prowess. Interestingly, this continual out-crossing for athletic enhancement has still led to the Alaskan sled dog repeatedly producing its own unique genetic signature. Indeed, the Alaskan sled dog breed proved to be more genetically distinct than breeds of similar heritage such as the Alaskan Malamute and Siberian Husky."

One of the best things about a husky plush pup is you get all the beauty of the real thing without the constant worry as to whether the dog will still be at home when you get there. If given even the smallest of opportunities to go out and roam, a husky won't hesitate to do so. A husky plush dog, however, will be quite content to live within the confines of whatever place you choose for it atop a bed, on a shelf, in between the bed pillows, or, even carried in your arms.
