Taking care of your husky puppy is important to maintain a healthy, happy, and obedient dog. It's important to start training your puppy from day 1 to make sure that you can housebreak your dog. The best time to adopt a husky puppy is around the age of 8 weeks, the perfect time to start housetraining.

Feeding Your Puppy

It's important that you adapt your puppy to your new doggy food. I recommend buying higher quality dog food although commercial foods have their own hazards. Make sure that you feed your puppy consistently on the same times of the day, and the same type of food. You will have to know the exact amount your puppy needs for his or her age, and that information you can obtain from your vet. If your puppy starts whining and crying for food you will do him no good by overfeeding him. Just keep consistent and eventually your puppy will get used to it.

Bathing Your Puppy

Just like little children, most puppies don't like path time. It's important to incentivize bath time with treats to make sure your puppy gets used to the water and the slippery tub. If you keep it smart and consistent, your puppy will soon learn to like bath time and you will have no problems with it. On average, you should give your husky a bath no more than once every two weeks. Huskies have a natural tendencity to keep themselves clean by bathing their coat with their tongue, so don't make bath-time a very routined experience.

Housebreaking Your Puppy

First thing that you need to learn about housebreaking is that the sooner you start, the better. Husky puppies can't control their bladder properly until the age of 12 weeks so expect a few accidents. Puppies under 12 weeks of age will tend to eat (and go to the potty) very often. You need to watch them as they start to relieve themselves inside the house. Place them in some room (with some newspapers or something) where you don't mind it getting messy. When you catch your puppy "giving it a go" give your puppy a strong sign that you don't approve of what it's doing.

Your puppy will sense your negativity and will know that whatever it's doing is wronog. But, what you need to do right away is take your puppy outside and let him finish the job there. As soon as he finishes make sure you give him lots of treats and praise. This will tell your puppy that peeing outside is good!

Your puppy can sense "the bathroom" based on smell of his own urine. So if he relieved himself in the house make sure you get rid of that scent VERY well as next time your puppy will smell it and go "I found my bathroom!".
