Ebb & Flow systems - where water and nutrients are pumped up to the roots and drained back into the reservoir. They are very useful in small gardens. On one side, this system is automated, but on the other side power outages, timer failures and pump failures are very common, especially with mediums such as Gravel, Growrocks, Perlite.

Drip systems - it applies water slowly and directly into the medium. It is the most popular today. A timer controls a submersed pump, and nutrient solution is dripped onto the base of each plant by a small drip line. There are also different types of this system and it is usually simply designed.

Water pump driven Drip system - this one uses an air pump to force the water and nutrients into the drip rings. It can have mediums like Hydroton grow rocks, Rock Wool, Silicone Stones.

NTF /Nutrient film technique - this system has a constant flow of nutrient solution so no timer required for the submersible pump. Some NTF growers has set timer and some work all the time. Plants are usually supported in small plastic basket with the roots dangling into the nutrient solution with just enough medium to hold the plant in place.

Aeroponics and Aero Cloners - The first one requires growing using a combination of a water/nutrient mist & air and the second one except they are designed for propagating cuttings/clones.

Fog technology - this system is pretty much new in hydroponics. It eliminates all water borne pathogens and pests, reduces algae growth by utilizing a unique ultrasonic, "dry fog" nutrient delivery system.
