Hypnosis Myth Can Only Weak People Be Hypnotized?

Hypnosis as a topic lends unfortunately itself to many unfortunate myths and inaccuracies

. One of these is that it is for the weak minded and gullible the claim being that its only weak-minded people who can be hypnotized.

This is actually not true. In truth anyone with a reasonable level of intelligence can be hypnotized. As the basis for the process is one of being open to suggestion, then you need to be able to read and understand simple instructions.

As a guide you cannot hypnotize someone with an IQ of under 80.

Hypnosis is rather similar to receiving a set of instructions to build something. If the instructions are followed, then it will work. If they are not, the desired effect will not subsequently take place.

Basically, you can be placed under hypnosis if you have either a strong or a weak mind. You can be placed under if you have your eyes opened or closed. Interestingly, you can even be hypnotized if you cannot hear.

Although anyone with reasonable intelligence can be placed in a hypnotic state, equally anyone can resist the process. The only requirement is a wish to undergo hypnosis (or not if that is your choice), along with an understanding of what you need to do in order to achieve the desired hypnotic state.

The level of hypnosis, however, will vary according to a persons willingness to let go. In a similar vein, the more intelligent a subject is, the easier it will be to achieve the desired state as they will have an appreciation of the process and can follow and understand the process.

Part of the reason for myths such as this is the unfortunate impression created by the use of stage hypnosis. It is probably not surprising when members of the public view people running around a stage clucking and pretending to be a chicken; that they believe these people to be quite weak and foolish.

However, there is a world of difference between stage hypnosis and that engaged in as part of a therapeutic process. One is focussed towards entertainment (with willing subjects who are prepared to take the risk of looking rather foolish) the other is geared towards self-improvement and a respect of the client.

It is not foolish or weak minded to seek to improve yourself or eradicate a problem it is actually a mature responsible decision to recognise that help is required and to seek this out.

There is so much more to learn about this fascinating topic, so do research further so that you can avail yourself of all that it can offer
