Hyundai Keeps Things The Same For The 2010 Hyundai Elantra

The Hyundai Elantra doesn't offer much in the way of engine choices for 2010

. In fact, the same choices are available now as they were in 2009 none. For two years running, the Hyundai Elantra comes standard with the 2.0 liter, in-line 4-cylinder, 1975 cc engine. This engine of average rating follows these specs:

82 mm bore

93.5 mm stroke

10.1 compression ratio

Double overhead cam

Variable timing

16 valves (4 per cylinder)

Multi-point fuel injection

Power is not the Hyundai Elantra's strong suit. The 2009/2010 engine performs at 138 horsepower at 6,000 RPM with 136 ft/lb torque at 4,600 RPM. To complement the engine, Hyundai pairs it with either the standard 5-speed manual transmission or for $1000 more, a 4-speed automatic. A 14-gallon tank hold the recommended 87 octane regular unleaded that Hyundai recommends.

There is one major performance difference if you live in California. The Elantra there is classified as a Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle which means there is no manual transmission option. As well, power is cut bringing the standard 138 hp down to 132 hp.

The 2010 Hyundai Elantra starts at $16,895, which is actually pricier than some other efficiency models this year and although it is officially a compact class car, the body measures at mid-size standards. You won't have any bragging rights with this model and you can't expect any fancy maneuvering on the road but it will get you from point A to B with a fuel economy rating of 24 mpg in the city and 33 on the highway.
