Hyundai Takes The Lead In The Go Green Race

. With a substantial investment of money, time and the best brains in the business, Hyundai has launched its own green initiatives to ensure that it does its part to conserve the earths precious resources and to reduce environmentally damaging emissions.

International Recognition

Hyundai was recently ranked 11th Best Global Green Brand in the world by global brand consultancy, Interbrand during an international survey which questioned over 10 000 consumers in 10 countries. The two leading reasons for Hyundais amazing green image: its zero-emissions hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle development and its Blue Drive eco-friendly vehicle manufacturing strategy.

Blue Drive Initiative

To combat the increase of green house gas emissions that are responsible for global warming around the world, Hyundai Motor Company has developed its Blue Drive initiative. This initiative is a 5-phase strategy in which Hyundai plans to address climate change, air pollution and resource depletion by controlling CO2 emissions in new cars and consolidating fuel efficiency. At present the auto giant is developing fuel efficiency technology in three directions:

Fuel efficiency maximization with a focus on common rail diesel engines, intelligent-stop-and-go systems and downsizing

Energy consumption minimization through lightweight technology and less resistance from air and tyres

Wasted energy recovery of a powertrain via regenerative braking and vehicle heat exhaust recovery

Eco Driving System

Hyundai furthermore understands that the way a car is driven can increase or decrease fuel consumption dramatically. With this in mind, it has developed its Eco Driving System to ensure decreased consumption via various methods that each respectively automatically controls rapid acceleration, directs a driving pattern to a driver and informs the driver of the most economical route to take.

Hybrid and Electric Vehicles

Hyundai rolled out its first hybrid vehicle using lithium polymer batteries in its Elantra hybrid in 2009 followed by the Sonata hybrid in 2011. At present Hyundai is developing more plug-in hybrid options set to hit various markets around the world in the near future while the automaker is also operating test fleets of its pure electric and hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicles.

Ultimately Hyundais dream is to create a car that doesnt emit any pollutants, and its a dream that the company plans on turning into a reality in the very near future.
